I ran into one of my favorite street urchins, Trevor Perelson at Sea Otter yesterday and was bummed to find him with a busted hand. Get well soon Trevor…

Trevor Perelson… By Brian Ralphael

This year’s new event Speed & Style killed the old Speed Trials format and was far more fun to watch and compete in… nice work goes out to Nativ Eyewear, Kyle Ebbet, Jeff Lenosky and the grunts who put the finishing touches on the course.

I recently took a trip to Santa Cruz and was lucky enough to ride with Jimmy up there. We got to play at his house which has a dirt skatepark in the driveway. He told us that he had built some trails a while back, but never managed to give them a first ride. So, we all grabbed a shovel and got them ready to blast. Don’t let the photo fool you, the gap is near 20ft out and about 6ft up. Naturally, Jim flows it with effortless ease!

Just a few weeks past was the first annual Santa Cruz Bike Festival, and Black Market was on hand at the scene. The festival was established to gain funds to open a permanent Santa Cruz bike park, and it seemed to be a great success! It was more than just a vendor gathering, there were events such as a 46 mile XC race, a 30 minute short track race, a massive pump track race, and of course, a Jump Jam at the famous Aptos dirt jumps. We raffled-off a Soldier complete, which was won by David from Aptos. He won the bike for his son, to get him into MTB’s. All-in-all it was a great weekend with a huge turnout and a sure thing to return to next year. We would like to give a big thanks to Epicenter Cycling in Aptos for helping us sponsor the event, and for their support.

Highlights include:

Lisa Myklak winning Pro Women’s pump track

Jake Kinney taking 2nd at Pro Men’s pump track, 4th at Jump Jam, & 2nd in best transfer

Our new “Roam” gaining wide popularity at the festival

1 man named Scott winning the XC, pump, and short track races. He won the Pro Pump race with no brakes, no chain/sprocket and with Motocross bars on his bike

It was just great to meet so many new people and spend time with good old friends

Just loading up for the long trip ahead

BlkMrkt booth at the festival, always reppin’ hard

EVERYONE loves some BlkMrkt gear!

Lisa Myklak with the win on the pump track

Congrats David!

Pavel just sent over these 3 videos of himself at Air King. I must say, as soon as he stepped up to 26″, his game stepped up even more and he was killing it at the dirt jumps! Throwing down huge double whips, flip bars, and just barely missing the flip double whip landed him a top 10 finish in the finals.
the videos are in order of: Practice, Qualifying, and Finals. Enjoy!

Time to ride…

RedBull Just released a new flatland/street edit with the phenom, Matthias Dandois. This has to be one of the most well directed and filmed edits that i’ve ever seen on the internet. Regardless of what you ride, this is SURE to entertain. Enjoy!

The results are in…

Unfortunately, I missed the live webcast of the Vienna Air King but I just saw the results. Our man from Russia… Pavel Alekhin, A.K.A. “Vishnivey” made the Finals and finished 10th overall against  what could arguably be the best mountain bike dirt jumpers in the world… brakeless.
Nice work Vishneviy!!!

This is just a heat… Damn!!!
